It is our pleasure to share with you SAMED’s 2019-20 annual report.

For the medical technology industry, here and abroad, the past year has been sharply divided into two parts: business before the COVID-19 pandemic struck and business in the presence of this viral hurricane.

We are presently in the midst of the storm and, at SAMED, our vision is still filtered through the lens of the pandemic response. This provides a unique perspective on our past, current, and future endeavours.

An organisation’s strengths and shortcomings are clearly revealed by the demands of a crisis as severe as the coronavirus pandemic. We have learned a great deal about where SAMED has created real value in recent years and about our blind spots in developing an organisation that serves its members, its stakeholders and the general public.

To appreciate these lessons and place them in perspective, we need to consider SAMED’s direction and activities during the past year and the foundations we had laid in particular areas before our course was diverted in March.

Within the Annual report, you will find feedback on the expansion of SAMED’s membership; strengthening of collaborations with government and business sector role-players; the role SAMED and our members are playing in the response to COVID-19; contributions to regulations and enhanced market access; progress on transformation and ethical business practice; advancements by the local medtech industry; and more.
