SAMED recognises that effective procurement of medical technology makes an enormous contribution to the quality of care offered by the health system to the public. To this end, through the Market Access Committee, SAMED has set out its position on the procurement system required to optimise the contribution of medical technology. In general terms, SAMED argues for a procurement system that is ethical, efficient, and effective and that promotes competition in the market. More specifically, SAMED promotes the goal of a procurement system that takes account of the unique characteristics of medical technology. At the heart of such a system is the concept of value-based procurement.
