On the 18th of July, the world celebrates Nelson Mandela Day to commemorate the legacy of the great South African leader. The day is touted as the global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the potential to transform the world.

The Mandela Day Campaign message encourages people to use 67 minutes of their time to support a chosen charity or serve in their local community. The 67 minutes symbolically represent the number of years the former President fought for human rights and the abolition of apartheid.

The SAMED Secretariat and Sustainable Supply Chain Transformation Africa (SSCTA) pledged their 67 minutes in honour toward addressing hunger in South Africa. The teams from both organisations (together with other volunteers) packed over 500 healthy meal packets that will be donated to Early Childhood Centres across South Africa.

The medtech sector has always been about changing and saving lives, and these effort of healthy eating will hopefully provide healthy bodies and healthy minds.

This day is a reminder that together we can end hunger – this Nelson Mandela Day and the other 364 days of the year.
