An upcoming Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Masterclass in partnership with Value in Research, is aimed at equipping MedTech professionals with the skills needed to navigate South Africa’s evolving reimbursement landscape.
Titled “From HTA to Payer Approval: Unlocking Reimbursement for MedTech Innovation,” the masterclass comes at a pivotal time as South Africa moves closer to National Health Insurance (NHI) implementation and the formalisation of HTA structures. The ability to effectively engage with payers and demonstrate value is becoming increasingly critical for MedTech companies operating in the local market.
Delivered through six interactive online sessions, the programme is designed specifically for the South African context and will provide practical, hands-on learning. Participants will gain insights into how HTA for medical devices differs from pharmaceuticals, strengthen their evidence generation and pricing strategies, and learn how to develop boardroom-ready submissions that resonate with decision-makers.
The course also offers real-world case studies, subgroup exercises, and guidance on preparing for engagement with scheme administrators and potential future HTA bodies. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and access to practical tools that can be applied immediately within their organisations.
This initiative reflects SAMED’s continued commitment to supporting its members in building critical capabilities that drive innovation, market access, and sustainable healthcare delivery.
Early interest in the programme has been strong, with several organisations already registered, including Becton Dickinson, Airstep, Masoom Training, and Johnson & Johnson. A limited number of spaces remain available.
Tiered pricing is available based on registration numbers, with a minimum of 36 participants required to secure the offering.
MedTech professionals involved in HTA, pricing, market access, or reimbursement are encouraged to register and take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their readiness for South Africa’s changing healthcare landscape.
